The cracks we ignored

We built ours on shaky ground,
While many searched for cement,
we held ours together with glue and hope,
admiring glass homes with steady foundations.

We sealed the cracks with guilt from past lives,
and regret,
feeding off our faults,
Communication faded,
Issues that mattered were underrated.

Insecurities grew,
Doubt moved into the next room,
A few months later…
what we once called a home, love,
became a daily routine of
“hi,”
“hi,”
“I’m just checking up on you,”
“okay.”

A small storm passed,
A minor matter revealed how unstable we were,
From our good times,
to my personal space is crucial.
We withdrew gradually,
as though Cupid never lived with us at all.
